Windguru for Windows Phone 7
FAQ:
Q. I receive a 'Format Exception' error message when trying to view the forecast.
A. This is a bug in v1.0. It impacts users who have regional settings which use a comma as a decimal separator; mainly continental European users. This has been fixed in v1.1.
If you get this error in a more recent version it is most likely because of an error in the forecast data. This can usually be fixed by going to Settings and choosing 'Clear Cache'.
Q. I’m not able to use Windguru without a data connection.
A. Windguru requires a data connection to work. Data is cached after first use however you will need an active connection to get the latest data.
Q. I have a data connection (I can browse to various websites) however I keep getting the following error "The remote server returned an error - not found".
A. It appears that your device is having problems connecting to the Windguru site. Please check if you can access www.windguru.cz from your device; if you can and you still get the error then unfortunately there is some other problem we can't help with.
Q. I'm unable to login, the application doesn't recognise my username and password.
A. Check that you can login from the Windguru website with the same credentials. If you can there but not on the Application then please contact us with further details of the problem. Please note that it's unlikely that we can resolve the issue as we don't control the process used to authenticate your credentials.
Q. Browsing between pages is slow.
A. The performance of the page transitions is largely dependent on the speed of your data connection and whether the data is cached. A strong 3G or Wireless connection will provide far better performance than GPRS.
Q. Can I change the units used to present windspeed - say from knots to beafourt?
A. Yes, you must change the setting at the Preferences section of your account at www.windguru.cz.
Q. Can I go straight to my favourite spot at application startup?
A. At present you need to start the application and then go to your favourites; I hope to include this feature in a future version.
Q. The rendering and panning of the forecast is sometimes very slow and navigating back from the forecast takes a long time.
A. This has been vastly improved in version 1.2. I'll keep focusing on what I can do to improve the performance of this feature.
Q. I receive an error when trying to access the spot Country, Region or Spot list.
A. This data is downloaded from the Windguru site; if you don’t have a data connection then this will not work. Once the data has been accessed the first time then it will be cached and you will be able to browse the menu without access to the Internet.
Q. The ‘add favourite’ icon is disabled.
A. You need to be logged in before you can add or remove favourites.
Q. Map zooming and rendering is slow.
A. This is an ‘out of the box’ control from Microsoft and we can’t change the performance. The rendering and zooming performs best when you have a fast data connection. Microsoft have suggested that this will improve with upcoming releases to the Windows Phone 7 Operating System.
Q. I can't find the forecasts.
A. The forecast is access from the 'Spot' page - the one that shows a map of the location. Click the icon of a 'globe' in the bottom right. You can't access the forecast from the 'Spot Information' page. In the next version the 'continent list' and 'forecast' icons will not be the same - currently they are and this can cause confusion.
Q. How do I add a spot to my favouries.
A. Add a favourite from the 'Spot' page - the one that shows a map of the location. Click the icon of a 'star with a plus'. You can't add a favourite from the 'Spot Information' page. You need to be logged in.
Q. I received an error not covered in the FAQ.
A. Please report the error details using the Contact Us page. Unless you report errors I'm not able to fix them.
